Vallemaggia is just north of Locarno. It's a broad valley with lots of variety.
To he south there are the boulders of Ponte Brolla, a bit like Val Verzasca, but in my opinion just a little less attractive.
My main reason to go here was the San Giovanni Battista church by Mario Botta.
It's a great design, contrasting but fitting the surrounding mountains and forests.
And although the mountain landscpae is a must see, the many villages in the valley do have their own quality as well.
