twente

I've entitled this chapter in my Netherlands series back to my roots, because I was born and raised in Twente, in the eastern part of the Netherlands. Twente is a part of Overijssel province, which together with Gelderland and Flevoland form the provinces of the east.

I guess photographing the atmosphere from your youth is one the hardest things. That's why I'm only starting this chapter. From Twente I've added some shots from the northern fields, a historic watermill, cows and the village of Mariënberg and shots from Enschede, my actual place of birth and the largest city in Overijssel.

The Roombeek quarter in Enschede, in the year 2000, knew a large explosion from a fireworksfactory right in the middle of the area. People were killed and injured. Nowadays the area is being newly developed. The first houses are inhabited already.
