phoenix

Phoenix is big and fast growing. In the summer it is hot with temperatures rising up to 50 degrees Centigrade. Strange thing with Phoenix is that it doesn't seem to have a real heart. There is a downtown area, filled with highrise and empty squares where in the future any heart might be created. And there is Heritage Square, a small and cosy historic site. But imho the history is no reason to go to Phoenix. What makes it worth for someone from out of the States is the typical USA feeling of broad streets that seem to continue forever. Like indian School Road. Every street and avenue looks alike at brief. It's the changing details and the bright colours around that attract. And its surroundings of a beautiful desert.

Within the Phoenix metropolis is upscale Scottsdale which has a historic wild west towncenter, and one of the highlights, Taliesin West, the house and architectural school by architect Frank Lloyd Wright. To the west the age restricted Sun City is part of the agglomeration and to the south is the Sonora Desert with the Saguaro National Park.
