Montreal is the heart of the French speaking Canadian province Quebec. In a way it is a blend of Parisian laissez faire atmospheres and the more practical North American attitude. The Old Town, Vieux Montreal is the historic part of town, with cobblestoned alleys and a few domes reaching for the sky. Downtown is the main office and shopping area. The Parisian atmosphere is not to be found here. Interesting is the Biosphere structure by Buckminster Fuller created for the 1967 World Expo. Nearby is 'l Homme / Man, a beautiful sculpture by Calder. Just north of Vieux Montreal are lively and charming neigbourhoods to be found, such as Plateau de Mont Royal.
