I like Lake Millstatt (Millstättersee) and the area around because of the accessability of the nearby nature and the beauty of it.
Furthermore the village of Millstatt is an attractive one and a typical Austrian one.
Apart from the lake the natural highlight in the area is the Nockberge National Park.
Not heavily visited and without eternal snow it has marvellous views through lush alpine meadows and along rocky outcrops. It's a place for hiking.
Another highlight in the area is the small town of Gmünd that still has lots of the medieval atmosphere.
Where many small Austrian towns have to do more than it's best to show their quality, in Gmünd it's just there without any tresholds.
Malta Valley, which is just arounf the corner from Gmünd, is not in this chapter. I gave it a place in the chapter on the Hohe Tauern.
